Even before the internet became plastered with surreal AI-generated images of miniature cows and baby bunnies riding on the backs of turtles, Facebook was a dubious source of news. In recent years, it’s become sort of a deepfake free-for-all, where accounts you’ve never heard of are trying to get you to click on AI-generated images of happily married older couples, posing together decades after their wedding days. Facebook has made attempts to warn gullible users about which images might have been created or manipulated by AI, but many of the ones I’ve seen still carry no label or warning.
